About Me
As the mother of two very different learners, I know how difficult it can be to navigate your child's education. My children's needs have not always been met by their teachers and schools and I know how heart-breaking it can be to watch their enthusiasm for learning slip away or to wipe away tears on a school morning. I have also had to drag my child to school on occasion because they were so anxious about what the day might bring them.
My journey in education began over 20 years ago, working for a busy tutoring centre in mid-town Toronto. I was struck by the huge number of students needing extra-support at school. I was also disappointed by the general lack of enthusiasm and often-times heightened anxiety of school-aged children.
In the hopes of finding an alternative to the failings of traditional education models, I pursued two Montessori teaching diplomas with the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), as well as training and certification in various research-backed methods, such as Orton-Gillingham, Direct Instruction, and JUMP Math.
After nearly 20 years in the classroom, my resolution that all children are born passionately interested in learning about the world around them, remains intact. Every child is an individual and can't be expected to learn in the same way or at the same pace.
My mission is to create a new experience for children and their families; one that feeds the soul and mind and reignites their natural love of learning.
